2016 State 4-H Livestock Judging Results

(Lodi): The State 4-H Livestock Judging Contest was held on Monday, July 25 at the Lodi Agricultural Fairgrounds in Lodi, WI.  This annual venue allows the top junior and senior county 4-H Livestock judging teams the opportunity to apply their skills in evaluating beef, swine, sheep and meat goat classes in hopes of qualifying for a national livestock judging event this fall.

In 2016, there were nine senior teams and eight junior teams that participated.  The contest consisted of evaluating classes of market and breeding beef, market and breeding swine, market and breeding sheep, as well as answer questions and deliver sets of oral reasons.  These teams qualified for the state contest by being top teams at the district Area Animal Science Days that were held around the state in June.

The top two teams in the Senior Division will go on to represent Wisconsin at a National Judging Contest this fall.   A team from Juneau County took top honors in the senior division.  Team Members included: Daniel Walsh, Bailey Miller, Clayton Walsh and Michaela Honnold.  They are coached by Lisa Walsh and Todd Cherney.  The second place senior team was Waukesha County.  Team members include:  Hannah Tremaine, Mason Roscizewski, and Ceara Cull.  They are coached by Karen Tremaine.  Third place team was: Manitowoc County, Vanessa Roberts, Megan Greif and Alek Konopacki.  Fourth Place: Iowa County, Bailey Fritsch, Martina Steffes, Logan Schmitz, Brady Palzkill.  Fifth Place:  Jefferson County: Alexis Schultz, Alexis Timmel, Hannah Schultz, Colton Klecker

The top ten senior individual judges:  1st:  Vanessa Roberts, Manitowoc, 2nd: Daniel Walsh, Juneau, 3rd: Bailey Miller, Juneau, 4th: Mason Roscizewski, Waukesha 5th: Alek Konopacki, Manitowoc, Sheboygan, 6th: Hannah Tremaine, Waukesha, 7th. Bailey Fritsch, Iowa, 8th: Alexis Schultz, Jefferson 9th: Alexis Timmel, Jefferson and 10th: Clayton Walsh, Juneau

The top reasons team was Manitowoc County.  Team members include: Vanessa Roberts, Megan Greif and Alek Konopacki.  The top five reasons individuals were:  Vanessa Roberts, Manitowoc, Alexis Timmel, Jefferson County, Daniel Walsh, Juneau County, Mason Roscizewski, Waukesha County, Bailey Fritsch, Iowa County.

The top beef was Juneau County; top sheep team was Juneau County and top swine team was Jefferson County.

The top junior team was from Iowa County.  Team members were:  Emma Steffes, Blaine Springer, Morgan Vondra and Brandon Spring.  They are coached by Jeff Thomas.  The second place junior team was Dunn County.  Team members include:  Addie Grossbier, Andrew Zukowski, Kittrick Singerhouse and Emily Zukowski.  They are coached by Jesse Singerhouse.  Third Place:  Juneau County:  Trenna Cherney, Ethan Lulich and Dawson Miller.  Fourth Place: Grant County:  Will Esser, Mason Crooks, Luke Patterson, Jessica Patterson.  Fifth Place:  Pierce County:  Kaylee Bazille, Cora Capatske, Erin Boatman and Jake Bazille.

The top ten junior individual judges: 1st: Trenna Cherney, Juneau County, 2nd: Emma Steffes, Iowa County, 3rd: Blaine Springer, Iowa County, 4th: Addie Grossbier, Dunn County, 5th: Kaylee Bazille, Pierce County, 6th: Will Esser, Grant County, 7th: Andrew Zukowski, Dunn County, 8th: Cora Capatske, Pierce County, 9th: Ethan Lulich, Juneau County, 10th: Kittrick Singerhouse, Dunn County.

The top sheep team was Iowa County; top swine team was Marathon County; top beef team was Dunn County.

Top Reasons individual for juniors went to Kailen Smercheck Marathon County and top reasons team for the junior division went to Iowa County.

Sponsors for the State 4-H Livestock contest include:  The Milwaukee Stockyards, Wisconsin 4-H Foundation, Buell Gunderson Memorial, Country Fresh Meats, UW-Extension, and UW Animal Science Departments.  Extension Youth Livestock Specialist Bernie O’Rourke, Outreach Specialist, Alissa Grenawalt and 4-H Youth Development Specialist Pam Hobson organize the contest annually.
